LONDON: We're living in something of something like a golden age for space untersuchung, with a fleet of robotic explorers these days orbiting, landing on or roving across most of the planets in the solar-system, and more planned for the near future. Inside the Space Traveller's Guide to the Solar-system, Mark Thompson draws upon high of this up-to-date knowledge to be our tour guide to the archipelago pointing to planets and moons that store our Sun with us.
Starting with a lot, the book takes us within a grand tour of the solar system: often the rocky inner worlds, and to the churning gas giant exoplanets and the icy outer realm lived in by Pluto. He employs evocative turns of phrase to show you what he means. The pummelling of the Moon by rocks has pulverised its surface into a fine, heavy "lunar regolith", like a chef racing spices with a pestle and mortar. The ground on Saturn's moon Ti (symbol) has a thin, hard crust applying softer, wetter consistency underneath, love a lot creme brulee. And fascinating gems of information glitters from the text.
